Whirlwind Weekend Fun

Whew! What a weekend. Long weekends are always much anticipated in this house, not only because of the time off, but because all of the neighbors come out and it means lots of visiting for us.

Thursday was a half day for some people. Why, I’m not exactly sure. We have a business calendar and we go by the “red” days on it, and it wasn’t a half day there, so we were working. Our friends, the Martins who own the house two doors down from us, came out in the afternoon on Thursday so when we were done work we headed over for a visit and a swim. It was so nice! It’s been getting warmer here so the dip in the pool was much appreciated. Suki, the Martins daughter, has two kids and is very excited that we’re parents now. Last time I saw her she asked if there was anything that we needed and this time she gave us a very sweet baby gift, one that she said we’d very much appreciate come July and August – a kiddie pool! Yep, Liv has her very own pool. It’s one of those little blow up ones which is great, and I think it might just be the right size for Mommy to sit in too ;) I remember many summers as a kid playing in the pool.

Visiting with neighbors 3 doors down.

On Friday we headed out to La Digue for a visit with Dr. Jen. Olivia was two months on Wednesday so we wanted to have a check up and get her weighed. She weighed in at a whopping 9lb 14oz, thank you very much. Remember, when we met her she was only 5lbs 4oz, so she’s practically doubled her weight in a month and a half. Jen said she’s fully made up for lost time :) Jen was really happy with how she was doing which was very reassuring to us. We got to visit with Troy and the clan which was nice too. Noah made sure that we saw Rude, the new mission kitty. He was very persistent about it actually. It was especially important the Chris saw the kitty. Why, I’m not sure, but it was very important :)

By the time we got home our friends Dennis and Nancy had arrived. Dennis is the one that bought the mission boat over a year ago. They’ve just rented a house down the beach from us. We’re very excited about this because we love spending time with them and they plan on being out a lot so we’ll have people to visit with more often. I whipped up some brownies and carrots and we headed over there for dinner and a nice evening with friends.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early. Okay, maybe we weren’t so bright. We went and got Kevin, Dennis and Nancy’s daughter, and her two friends, Greg and Nick, and we headed to Montrouis, then up the mountain so we could hike up to Kay Piat. You can drive to a certain point and then you do the rest on foot. It’s so amazing when you can get up into the mountains because you can see how beautiful Haiti is. I enjoyed getting out and hiking as a family. It was fun to plunk Liv in the Snugli and just go. We enjoyed the hike up and everyone, except me because I was silly and didn’t wear my bathing suit thinking that it would be too cold, went in the pool at the water source at the top of the hike. It’s this beautiful, clear, cold spring that just bubbles up out of the ground. There was a German project up there several years ago that built a hydro electric plant, and the pipes start up at the source.
The source.

After hanging out with some of the local kids (we’re always the main form of entertainment when we go up) and Greg getting a lesson from a young woman on how to make this crazy WHOOMP sound with your hands in the water, we headed back down. It was a beautiful morning.
Some of the cute local girls smiling for me. They LOVED seeing themselves on the screen afterwards.

When we got back to Dennis and Nancy’s we relaxed with some cold beverages and a not so healthy intake of chips and brownies. Chris and I headed home and spent the afternoon at our place just relaxing. That evening we headed over to the Martins for a visit, then back over to Dennis and Nancy’s for dinner and more visiting.

Yesterday we hung out at home and had our missionary group over for Easter dinner. There was 14 of us all together. Some people had been away for the last month so it was nice to relax and catch up with them.
Olivia in her new dress made by our friend Marion. She wore it for the first time yesterday. I LOVE it.

By the time everyone left around 4:30 pm I was DONE. I didn’t realize how tired I was from the weekend because I had just sort of kept moving. But, I finally crashed and enjoyed lying on the couch for a while. Olivia sent some big love out to Mommy and Daddy last night and slept all the way through to 5:30 am, which is about 10 minutes before our alarm goes off. Yep, 2 months and she slept through the night on her own. Amazing. I’m not sure if it’ll continue or if it was just because she was pooped out from all the visiting, but it was such a treat!

Well, time to go get some work done :(

  1. I’m glad that you guys enjoyed your long weekend! That hike up to Kay Piat is amazing! I did it when I lived at Canaan and the view from the top was beautiful! Liv looks adorable in the dress Marion made and she looks so big!
