Abaka Bay Info

For anyone interested in more info about Abaka Bay where we stayed on Ile a Vache (see next post) you can visit their website HERE. The website is in English and the owners are good at responding to any emails, also in English.
The prices are all listed. It’s a bit more than you might pay at some places, and right on par with others like Club Indigo in Montrouis (the old Club Med). All meals were included and like I said, the food was fabulous. We figured that the price was worth it simply for the fact that we were able to really relax and unwind for the weekend without the usual “Haiti stuff” to contend with.
You can either drive to Les Cayes or fly from Port au Prince on Tortug Air. We chose to drive to save some money and because I wanted to see a part of the country I hadn’t seen yet (Chris had been that way before). It took us about 3-4 hours from Port and was a nice drive. There are some really beautiful places in Haiti.
The boat from the hotel will meet you in Les Cayes, you just need to be in contact with the hotel and they’ll send it to meet you when you get there. They have a parking area as well. Once you meet up with them they are right on making you the guest. It was nice to just let them take care of everything and to be treated so well.
And, just for entertainment purposes, these were some of the passengers on the boat on the way over:
And then they showed up at lunch the next day with BBQ sauce;)

About Leslie

I'm Leslie. Wife. Mother. Missionary. In the day to day my husband and I are responsible for running Clean Water for Haiti, a humanitarian mission that builds and distributes water filters to Haitian families. Living in Haiti full time provides lots of stories, and as I tell my husband, our grandkids probably won't believe most of them. Maybe writing them down will give me some credibility.

  1. Definately a "hidden gem"… paradise indeed; what a contrast to other areas of Haiti.
So happy you both were able to get away for some much needed R&R, and so very sweet and thoughtful of Jess to look after sweet Liv!
Always enjoy your "ramblings" and fotos, keep up the good work, be encouraged!
    Missing you tons, Nanna Lockhart
