Facelift

So things are looking a bit different around here. It was time for a bit of a facelift. I love the set up that WordPress has as far as usability, but find their preset backgrounds/themes a bit limiting. I found this one today (it’s new) and thought it was fitting for our family – bright, whimsical, hippyish (that’s for Chris) and just sort of inspiring. I want to wear it, so I guess that’s a good sign. And, when Chris saw it he said, “Wow, you really went all out,” as though I did more than click a button to select it.

I’ve updated the About Us page so go there to see some new info. It was great to re-read some of the comments. Very encouraging. Thanks for that.

Mmm...sweet, juicy, messy gineps!

The Fox family has been here since the end of May, as you know if you’ve been reading for any length of time. Chris and I were really looking forward to having them here for a couple weeks after we got back. It’s been so good so far. Olivia is in her glory having 4 boys to hang out with. And those boys are sweet, sweet, sweet. I mean it. When they’re outside playing at night one of them will walk her upstairs to the door. It’s ginep season, and those slimy little things, while tasty, stain clothes. The boys came up twice today to check on whether I wanted Olivia to changer her clothes because they were going to be eating gineps. They’ve gone swimming, played for hours in the yard, climbed trees… it’s Olivia’s idea of paradise.

I had a really productive day today. Alex was very agreeable and ended up sleeping spread-eagle on the new Granny blanket on the floor. My Granny rocks. She has this thing about quilting quilts for members of the family, especially new members. Seeing as we’re in Haiti a quilt isn’t really practical so we requested a thick “floor blanket” that we could lay on the tiles so there would be fewer bumped heads. She obliged and we got a nice sized floor quilt that’s extra thick. Today it passed the test. I’m pretty sure Alex slept there for about 2 hours under the fan. He would wiggle occasionally and then I would look over to see him passed out again. Oh, it’s hard to be a baby.

While he was sleeping I managed to get a bunch of data entry and filing taken care of. Not my favorite job, but someone has to do it. I cleaned up my inbox and took care of a couple other pressing things as well. That always feels good. I feel like I’m slowly getting my bearings and remembering how to do this, and sort of learning it at the same time. It’s different with two kids. Sort of that juggling thing where you hope you can get it all taken care of and still have everyone happy.

Okay, I’m going to sign off for tonight. The shower is calling my name. Seriously, the shower before bed when it’s hot and sticky is a sanity saver and feels oh-so-good.

I'm Leslie. Wife. Mother. Missionary. In the day to day my husband and I are responsible for running Clean Water for Haiti, a humanitarian mission that builds and distributes water filters to Haitian families. Living in Haiti full time provides lots of stories, and as I tell my husband, our grandkids probably won't believe most of them. Maybe writing them down will give me some credibility.
